Software for Students

Laptop Loan Program

For students who need a temporary replacement for their computer, Rice OIT has a computer loaning program that allows students to borrow laptops on a first-come first-serve basis. Students can use this program by following the instructions on this website. If you need a long-term replacement, you need to fill out the non-emergency AOP form.


Digital Media Commons (DMC)

If you want to check out technical equipment like video cameras, microphones, photo equipment, and more, check out this website to learn more about the services and location of the DMC.


Library Genesis

This website gives you access to a vast collection of books at no cost but visit at your own risk. You can access the website here. If you do not want to use this website or cannot find the book you are looking for, we recommend filling out AOP Textbook request form.

Fund Your Summer Experience

The Owl Edge Summer Experience Fund give students who are receiving little to no payment for their summer jobs, internships, and other experiences. This resource is available to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interviewing or have secured a summer position. You can find more info and apply here.

On-Demand Night Escort

Are you away from home in the Rice area and need transportation? You can use Rice's Night Escort by calling (713) 348-6000 during the following hours:
Sunday - Thursday: 10 PM to 6 PM
Friday - Saturday: 10 PM to 3 AM

Metro Q-Cards

All undergraduate students can ride the Houston METRO Red Line for free! All you have to do is fill out the QCard request form here.

SSI Food Pantry 

Rice operates a food pantry available to all students facing food insecurity. This resource is both anonymous and accessible. Below is information about the location and hours:

Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 9 AM to 5 PM

Location: Rice Memorial Center on the left of The Chapel
